3. Investigating incidents
Pre-investigation actions, forming an investigation team, determining the level of investigation
Gathering information (gathering physical, verbal and written evidence, using effective strategies of interviewing witnesses, overcoming barriers to good interviews: reluctant witnesses, blame culture and psychological biases in an interview process)
Analyzing information (learning how to build a chronological timeline and to use several root cause analysis techniques: the 5 Whys, Cause Tree, Ishikawa Fishbone Diagram, SCAT, and Barrier / Bowtie Analysis)
Developing effective risk control measures aimed at eliminating identified incident causes and preventing recurrences
Developing an action plan

Important: Purchasing the course does not automatically make you eligible for the next advertised exam date. To be registered for a NEBOSH exam, you must complete all required course elements and assignments before the registration cut-off date for that exam. If you enrol too close to an exam date to meet this requirement, you will be registered for a later exam.
Upon successful completion, you will receive the NEBOSH Incident Investigation Certificate, issued directly by NEBOSH UK. This international qualification reflects best practices and is recognized by employers worldwide.

Activities are never included simply for the sake of interaction. Each one has a clear learning purpose: to help participants understand the investigation process, examine evidence, identify immediate and underlying causes, determine root causes, and develop effective corrective actions.

Although the online course is self-paced, participants are not left to learn from an automated system alone. Knowledge checks provide immediate results, while practical assignments are reviewed by real instructors who are experienced safety professionals. Participants receive personalized feedback to help them strengthen their analysis, recognize where they are doing well, and understand how they can improve.
There are no formal prerequisites. However, a basic understanding of workplace health and safety is helpful. For non-native English speakers, we recommend a minimum of IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 60, or CLB Level 7 to ensure you can fully engage with the content and complete the assessment confidently.
For the online course and final examination, basic computer skills and reliable internet access are required. Microsoft Word or another program capable of opening and editing Word documents will also be needed to complete course assignments.
