Understand the Value – Why This Course Matters
This course equips managers, supervisors, and HSE professionals in high-risk sectors with the skills and knowledge to identify, assess, and control process safety risks. Whether you're in oil and gas, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, or manufacturing, you'll gain tools to prevent major incidents and lead safety from the front.

This course is ideal for:
HSE professionals looking to deepen their understanding of process safety
Operations specialists and technical leads responsible for managing high-risk systems
Anyone aiming to strengthen safety culture and reduce the likelihood of catastrophic incidents
The course covers four core units:
Process Safety Leadership
Understand leadership’s role in establishing a positive safety culture and effective risk management.
Management of Process Risk
Learn how to identify process hazards, assess risk, and manage controls using industry best practices.
Process Safety Hazard Control
Dive into plant design, operation, maintenance, and the technical systems that keep processes safe.
Fire and Explosion Protection
Examine ignition sources, fire risk, and how to design effective protections against catastrophic events.
By the end, you’ll be able to apply key process safety principles in real-world scenarios
Identify key process safety hazards such as high-pressure systems, flammable substances, and reactive chemicals
Conduct practical risk assessments using industry-aligned methods to evaluate the likelihood and consequences of process failures
Review and improve existing control measures like pressure relief systems, alarms, interlocks, and safe operating procedures
Support the design, commissioning, and maintenance of plant and equipment to ensure process safety is embedded at every stage
Assess the effectiveness of safety systems, including isolation, shutdown, and containment measures
Identify ignition sources and evaluate fire and explosion risks specific to your plant or operation
Recommend appropriate fire and explosion protection measures — from passive systems to active suppression
Participate in and contribute to process safety reviews (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA), and understand your role within a larger safety management framework
Work more effectively with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to promote safer day-to-day practices

There are no formal prerequisites for this qualification. However, a good standard of English is recommended for non-native speakers. For non-native English speakers, we recommend a minimum of IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 60, or CLB Level 7 to ensure you can fully engage with the content and complete the assessment confidently.
It is also recommended that learners have a foundational understanding of health and safety issues. Many participants will already have completed another NEBOSH qualification or similar training.
